Northern Ministry

There have been many changes since the first Christian missionaries came to the North more than 150 years ago.  Once there were many priests and church workers. Now there are only a few left to serve this vast land.  Although there is a church building in most communities, very few have anything more than occasional pastoral care.  Yet, the Church is very much alive in the lives and culture of northern Christians as they lead and shape their churches and communities for the future.

On Eagle's Wings is an important part of those lives as we identify, train and mentor northern Christians for ministry.  The ecumenical nature of northern ministry has encouraged all of us to celebrate our oneness in Christ rather than defend denominational differences.  Northern and southern Christians working together as the Body of Christ are complementing each others' skills and gifts as we proclaim Jesus Christ and serve the Church.  On Eagle's Wings works cooperatively with others to enhance the Church's ability to proclaim the Gospel in ways that are theologically faithful to our traditions and sensitive to the cultural traditions of northern Christians.

It is an exciting time as the people of God experience our oneness as his children, discover new ways to work together and celebrate our common bond in the Gospel as God leads us into the future.

Northwest Territories / Nunavut Ministry

On Eagle's Wings serves more than 30 remote communities in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut from a base in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. The people of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut are Inuit, Metis and First Nations people who come from five different tribal backgrounds.  The area is served primarily by the Anglican and Roman Catholic churches in partnership with On Eagle's Wings.

Ministry staff in both the Yellowknife and Fort McMurray bases enjoy the support of ministry resource staff whose focus is to develop resources that specifically meet the needs of people in remote northern communities.

Note: On Eagle's Wings is currently seeking a new Pastor for the Yellowknife base.

Northern Alberta / Saskatchewan Ministry

From a base in Fort McMurray, Alberta On Eagle's Wings serves many remote communities.  The aboriginal people of northern Alberta and Saskatchewan are Metis and Cree and Dene First Nations.  The people of the area are served primarily by the Roman Catholic Church and in a few communities, by the Anglican Church.  On Eagle's Wings staff includes a full time ordained pastor.  The pilots for the Northern Alberta / Saskatchewan ministry are professional airline and commercial pilots who volunteer their time off to On Eagle's Wings.
